Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun made an announcement on Weibo that the next-generation smartphone factory located in Changping, Beijing, will soon begin operations. The CEO also released a video to further introduce the factory.
The new factory will be a “dark factory” that will be able to operate 24 hours a day without humans. In addition, machines in the factory can cooperate with each other. The factory can also independently create a dust-free environment by removing dust at the micro level.
The quality of the factory’s products will be controlled by self-developed intelligent machines. It is claimed that the production process can produce one smartphone every second. According to the promotional video, the “smart factory” is just a small step by Xiaomi into a future that is just beginning.
Xiaomi has reportedly invested 2.4 billion yuan in the development of the new production process. The new factory in Changping covers a construction area of 81,000 square meters. It has also been certified as a “national smart manufacturing benchmark enterprise” with an annual production capacity of 10 million flagship smartphones. This plant will be used for the production of future folding phones – Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 and Xiaomi MIX Filp.
However, Xiaomi has long been using automation in its production process. Xiaomi’s smart factory in Beijing’s Yizhuang district was completed and ready for production back in 2019. According to a previous report, the production of the company’s first book-shaped folding device, the Xiaomi Mix Fold, was fully supported by the first phase of the smart factory located in Yizhuang, Beijing.
