Too few women in Hertfordshire are taking advantage of the NHS cervical screening programme, according to data. The test is offered to females aged 25 to 64 to check for any abnormal cell changes before they can turn into cancer. According to a report presented to the latest meeting of the county’s health and wellbeing board, in 2023 the cancer screening coverage for women aged 25-49 in Hertfordshire was 71% – higher than the 66% recorded in England but below the “nationally acceptable standard of 80% uptake”.
