Ukraine needs technical specialists now more than ever. Defense tech, reconstruction, energy, communications, and medicine are some of the top priority sectors during and after the war. There are a lot of vacancies in these areas, and to move forward, one of the key problems is the shortage of personnel. That’s why the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, together with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, is developing STEM, reforming vocational schools, and supporting progressive projects, one of which is the Online Physics School. This is an initiative from Ukrainian teachers who help children learn physics for free.
Online Physics School
The school was founded in 2022 by teachers from Kherson Physics and Technology and Kharkiv Physics and Mathematics Lyceums. Scientists from Leiden University in the Netherlands also joined in. Everything to support children who lost the opportunity to study because of the war.
At Online Physics School, teachers explain everything in practice, do science, and program. The online school has author’s courses for those who are interested in a particular area: acoustics, astrophysics, Python programming, preparation for the NMT, and others.
Lesson plan
Lessons are held three times a week in Zoom. The teachers are the most experienced specialists who make children fall in love with the subject. They have been effectively preparing for NMT, EIT, and competitions of all levels for years.
Students are in constant contact with teachers and receive feedback on each assignment to help them understand the topics. The most successful students receive a gift from the school and a certificate from Leiden University at the end of the year.
“It’s great that teachers are organizing such initiatives, it’s a top opportunity to gain knowledge without raising funds and additional resources,” said Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
