German Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev has reached the third round at the Masters in Indian Wells. The 26-year-old from Hamburg won his opening match against Christopher O’Connell from Australia 6-4, 6-4 on Friday. Sixth seed Zverev had a bye in the first round. He will next play compatriot Yannick Hanfmann or the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in the hard court tournament, which is endowed with $12.4 million. “I think the match was solid. It wasn’t my highest level, but I can be satisfied. Of course it will be more difficult now,” said Zverev.
