Among her earliest memories growing up in Hoboken, Maria Scianclepore, now 25, would go with her two siblings and parents to the Italian Festival along Sinatra Drive. Her father, John, is a member of the Society of La Madonna Dei Martiri, which sponsors the annual feast every September. While she and her siblings were enjoying the zeppole and the rides, she also became fascinated with how the feast’s roots were in Molfetta, Italy.
