One person was killed and four others were injured in an avalanche in northern Italy on Monday, the Italian mountain rescue service reported. A total of eight climbers were on their way to Mount Castor in the Aosta Valley on the border with Switzerland in the afternoon when they were caught in the avalanche at an altitude of around 3,900 metres. The rescue operation proved difficult due to the weather conditions. A rescue helicopter was later deployed. It took the injured to a hospital in Aosta. Three other people were uninjured.
