Italy’s Chiara Consonni and Vittoria Guazzini beat the British world champion for Olympic women’s track cycling madison gold on Friday at the Paris Games. The Italian pair garnered 20 points for lapping the other teams during the 120 lap race plus another 17 from the 12 sprints for 37 points for a first global title in the discipline. Elinor Barker and Neah Evans snatched silver for Britain from the Netherlands by winning the final sprint for a total of 31. The Dutch had 28, having also gained 20 points by lapping the field. The men’s sprint was scheduled for later Friday.
