Nine construction workers are confirmed dead following the collapse of a multi-storey construction site in the South African city of George, with more than 40 still missing in the rubble, the local emergency services reported on Friday. The unfinished building collapsed on Monday afternoon when more than 80 workers were on site. According to the emergency services, 37 workers have been pulled alive from the collapsed building. George lies on the country’s southern coast some 370 kilometres east of Cape Town. President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered an investigation into the accident.
