The leader of the Dutch Socialist Party (SP) has resigned after last month’s election defeat. Lilian Marijnissen, 38, wrote on the social media platform X that the party needs “a new face,” following a string of drubbings at the polls and years spent in the opposition. She said she was stepping down both as party leader and as a member of parliament.
