Sweden’s Social Democrats have once again emerged the largest party in the European elections, taking 23.1% of the vote in initial projections put out by public broadcaster SVT. The Greens posted the largest gains, securing 15.7% according to the projections, up 4.2 percentage points on the 2019 result and taking third spot. The Moderates, a liberal-conservative party, came in second behind the Social Democrats. The right-wing populist Sweden Democrats were fourth with 13.9%, down 1.4 percentage points on their 2019 result. Sweden holds 21 seats in the European Parliament.
