The trial of a former officer in the East German secret service, commonly known as the Stasi, for a fatal shooting at a border crossing in Berlin has been extended into the autumn. The Berlin Regional Court announced on Friday that it had scheduled court sessions until November 15 to allow the expert opinion of a historian to be fully considered. The presiding judge, Bernd Miczajka, said that the Federal Archives have also promised the court further documents. The accused is an 80-year-old man from the eastern city of Leipzig who was a first lieutenant in the Stasi at the time of the killing. …
