The Greek coastguard picked up 151 migrants at sea south of the Mediterranean island of Crete at the weekend, and 35 more reached the island of Gavdos, almost 40 kilometres further south, local media reported on Sunday. All of the people were safe and well, according the regional Greek radio broadcaster in the Cretan city of Chania. The number of migrants attempting to cross from Libya to Greece and the EU is increasing. According to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), almost 900 migrants arrived on Crete this year to March 3.
