Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon claimed a record third straight Olympic 1,500 metres gold in Olympic record time to underline her total dominance over the distance. Unbeaten since 2021, world record holder Kipyegon left all rivals in her wake down the home straight for gold in 3 minutes 51.29 seconds. Australia Jessica Hall earned silver 3:52.56 and Georgia Bell ran a British record 3:52.61 for bronze. Kipyegon’s gold put her ahead of Soviet Tatyana Kazankina who had won back-to-back golds in 1976 and 1980. She is a triple world champion over the distance and also has a 5,000m silver in Paris.
