The Google Pixel Watch 3 is expected to launch next month, and in the run-up to it, as is the tradition with any Pixel product, specs and other details about the Pixel Watch 3 have been leaked online. Earlier today, we learned about the display, battery, colors, and connectivity of the watch. 91mobiles spotted the Pixel Watch 3 on the Singaporean IMDA website. This confirms some of these connectivity details.

Google Pixel Watch 3 IMDA listing confirms UWB support

  • The Pixel Watch 3 has appeared on the IMDA website under the model number GG3HH.

  • Google Watch supports such wireless communication technologies as ultra-wideband (UWB), Wi-Fi 6 (abgn,ac+ax), and Bluetooth (version not specified).

So, like the FCC, this certification also confirms the assumption that the Pixel Watch 3 has UWB support. Here’s why this is important.

How UWB can be useful in Pixel Watch 3

  • UWB, for the uninitiated, is a radio wave technology that operates in a short range but can transmit data with high bandwidth while consuming little power. It allows for accurate and real-time location tracking or navigation positioning. It is also considered to be more secure and stable than a Bluetooth LE connection.
  • The recent removal of the Find My Device APK showed that Google is adding UWB to the app.
  • This could mean that Google may allow you to track the location of your Pixel Watch 3 with Find My Device. That way, you can find the watch if it gets lost or misplaced.
  • Another use case could be the ability to unlock a compatible car using the Digital Car Key feature. Automakers such as Hyundai, Kia, and BMW already support the UWB-based Digital Car Key. So, thanks to UWB, you’ll be able to unlock supported cars with the Pixel Watch 3.

In a previous report, we learned that the Pixel Watch 3 can also support cellular connectivity, and compared to the Pixel Watch 2, it has a larger 45mm watch face, thinner bezels, peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits, a larger battery size, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 SoC at its core.
