Xiaomi is expected to unveil the Xiaomi 15 series of smartphones in October this year in China. With a few months left before the launch, rumors are gradually leaking details about the Xiaomi 15 lineup. The latest leak, courtesy of reliable source Digital Chat Station, reveals that the 15 Pro will offer a significant upgrade in the optical zoom department.

According to the informant, Xiaomi is switching to a periscope telephoto lens with an IMX8 sensor that offers 5x optical zoom on the Xiaomi 15 Pro engineering prototype. He added that it will support the latest ultra-high-resolution artificial intelligence algorithms.

As a reminder, Xiaomi 14 Pro does not have a periscope camera. It has a 50-megapixel Samsung S5KJN1 telephoto camera that offers 3.2x optical zoom. Thus, the 15 Pro is expected to have significantly better zooming capabilities.

A previous leak showed that Xiaomi 15 Pro will have a 50-megapixel primary camera. Potentially, it could be equipped with a 50-megapixel OV50K OmniVision main camera.

Although the previous model supported variable aperture for the main camera, we expect the 15 Pro will not support it. The rumors do not yet provide details about the 15 Pro’s ultra-wide-angle camera. It is likely that it will still be equipped with a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, just like the 14 Pro.

According to other reports, Xiaomi 15 Pro will have a 6.73-inch micro-curved OLED panel with a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone, powered by a 4-core Snapdragon 8th generation system, is equipped with a 5400 mAh battery with 120W fast charging support.
