The building of a controversial Lidl supermarket looks set to finally go ahead after facing legal challenge by two major rival chains. Plans for the store on Sheppey were given the nod by Swale council in July last year. All 17 members of the borough’s planning committee voted to approve the German food company building a 12,000 sq m shop at Cowstead Corner in Queenborough. However just two months later, rivals Tesco and Aldi launched an appeal to challenge the decision.
