Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday, boosted by semiconductor-related issues that tracked overnight advances by their U.S. counterparts. In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 189.25 points, or 0.48 percent, from Monday to 39,227.41. The broader Topix index was up 10.23 points, or 0.37 percent, at 2,792.72. On the top-tier Prime Market, gainers were led by oil and coal product, mining and nonferrous metal shares.
