At least eight people died in a new shipwreck in the Mediterranean Sea on Wednesday, according to the Italian authorities. According to the Italian coastguard, a boat with more than 30 refugees on board capsized around 30 nautical miles (55 kilometres) south-east of the island of Lampedusa in international waters.
