At WWDC 2024, Apple introduced its long-awaited artificial intelligence system, Apple Intelligence. The promise of an intelligent assistant coming to iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices this fall is exciting, but there are some limitations you should be aware of.
iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will be the first devices to be compatible with it
MacRumors has uncovered hints in the iOS 18 beta code that indicate Apple Intelligence may have a waitlist system. Phrases such as “Join the Graymatter waitlist” (Graymatter is a codename) indicate potential user access restrictions during the initial launch.
In addition, the code mentions “unusually slow response times” in unsupported areas, indicating a phased rollout to manage server load and ensure functionality. It remains unclear whether this “limited preview” limits the number of users or limits the available Apple Intelligence features at the initial stage. It is also possible that both restrictions can be implemented simultaneously. Currently, the feature is only compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Although all iPhone 16 models expected later this year are likely to support the feature, users will have to wait until at least September.
The good news is that Apple Intelligence goes beyond the iPhone. iPad and Mac devices equipped with Apple’s M-series chips will also be able to access this intelligent assistant.
