Austrians will go to the polls to elect a new parliament on September 29, the Federal Chancellery in Vienna announced on Tuesday. The date still has to be formally agreed by the council of ministers, or Cabinet, and parliament. The last election took place in 2019. Since then, Chancellor Karl Nehammer’s conservative Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) has governed in a coalition with the Greens.
