Fifty-two-year-old businessman Igor Kotelnikov died in a Moscow detention center on July 8, the independent Russian outlet Mediazona reported on July 12. According to Eva Merkacheva, a member of the Human Rights Council, Kotelnikov died after being held in a punishment cell, allegedly due to a blood clot, which she described as a common cause of death in the Russian Federal Penitentiary System (FSIN).
