The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has waived a £1,300 penalty for an unpaid carer who was threatened with fraud prosecution after inadvertently breaching benefit rules. Clemency Jacques, who cares for her disabled son and elderly mother, had been given the choice of paying the charge or risking police arrest and a court appearance. The penalty was imposed due to a £2,600 carer’s allowance overpayment.
