Signal users may be familiar with the challenge of creating group chats for a group call only, but that’s about to become a thing of the past. Now you can share a link to a call and allow up to 50 people to join within seconds. The days of selecting contacts one by one are over.

Now all you need to do is create a call link by going to the Calls tab and send it to whoever you want. The link can also be reused multiple times, which is handy if you have a fixed time for calls. Participants can raise their hands and send emoticons. Organizers can set up the room so that people can join the conversation only after approval.

Judging by the Signal blog post, the new group calling experience is very similar to Zoom. Those interested in privacy but want a conference-like experience may find the new update useful. Like Zoom, the desktop app offers more features.

In addition to Zoom, these features will be familiar to regular users of Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and some WhatsApp users. Raising hands can be found on all three platforms as a non-verbal way to signal the speaker. In WhatsApp, the number of participants decreased to 32 after an update in June. Although there is no hand-raising feature, you can use certain gestures to send emojis that everyone can see. It’s worth noting that many group calling apps are adopting similar features.

These new features are available on Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. If you don’t see them yet, we recommend updating your Signal app.
