German courts did not err in requiring one partner in a lesbian couple to adopt a child born to her partner through anonymous sperm donation, the European Court of Human Rights ruled on Tuesday. The rights of the lesbian couple had not been violated by the requirement, the Strasbourg-based court decided. The plaintiffs are two women living in a registered partnership since 2010.
