The mayor of Bishop’s Stortford has officially launched the town’s new allotment site by digging the first shovel of soil. Cllr Richard Townsend welcomed members of Grove Cottage, the home of Mencap at London Road, and residents to the Thorley Street site on Saturday. The town council bought 1.9 acre plot early last year and paid £141,000 for the land including approximately £75,000 from East Herts Council from Section 106 developer contributions.
