A state appeals court has overturned the murder conviction of a man who was accused of a convenience store parking lot killing when he was 18-years-old. Darwens Cadet, of Roselle, was convicted at trial in February 2020 of shooting 27-year-old Brian Pierre at a 7-Eleven in Linden in April 2018. Cadet, who is now 24, had been serving a 40-year prison term. A two-judge appeals panel found errors with questions police investigators asked him after he invoked his right to remain silent during questioning, and that the trial judge failed to instruct the jury on a key issue.
