EAST LANSING, Mich.— Students stood in a half-moon around the Sparty statue on Michigan State University’s campus Tuesday afternoon, occasionally stepping forward to set another sign, bouquet or stuffed animal on the pile collecting at his feet. For Taylor Newstead and her friends, it was white roses, placed in memory of their friend Brian Fraser of Grosse Pointe Park who was killed in a shooting on campus one year ago.
