The German-Israeli Society (DIG) branch in Bremen has criticized the awarding of Russian-American journalist Masha Gessen with this year’s Hannah Arendt Prize for Political Thought. In an open letter, the DIG took issue with Gessen’s comparison of the Gaza Strip to a ghetto in an Eastern European country occupied by Nazis.
