The tireless work of a charity founder who devoted her life to helping others was celebrated in her home village near Sudbury to mark the centenary of her birth. Lady Ryder of Warsaw started her first home, initially to care for Polish survivors of Nazi concentration camps, in 1953 in Cavendish. Through her charity the Sue Ryder Foundation she went on to establish homes throughout the UK and abroad, looking after people with a variety of different needs.
