In a post on Weibo, the reliable Digital Chat Station reported that the upcoming Vivo X200 and Oppo Find X8 series, which will be powered by MediaTek’s next-generation Dimensity 9400 chip, will hit the market before the expected Xiaomi 15 series with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor.
Qualcomm usually releases its flagship SoC first, followed by MediaTek about a month later. If this leak is confirmed, MediaTek could be the first to release its next-generation flagship SoC this year, as well as phones powered by this chip.
However, MediaTek has yet to confirm the launch of the Dimensity 9400. Qualcomm, on the other hand, has officially announced the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 at the Snapdragon Summit 2024 conference, which will begin on October 21.
The Dimensity 9400 looks like an impressive SoC so far. It is likely to be the only SoC with ARM’s latest Cortex cores, including the new X925 performance core. Meanwhile, Qualcomm is ditching its beloved ARM cores this year, opting instead for its own Oryon processor cores.
A report released earlier this week shows that the Dimensity 9400 has a 30% increase in single-core performance over its predecessor.
Considering that the Dimensity 9300 scores around 2207 points, we can see that the Dimensity 9400 reaches 2870 points in Geekbench single-core tests. Interestingly, the leaked benchmarks for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 show a similar single-core performance of 2884, indicating close competition in raw processing power.
The Dimensity 9400 is also rumored to be highly efficient, delivering this performance while consuming 30% less power than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for similar tasks. In addition, it will be the first chip to utilize Samsung’s 10.7Gbps LPDDR5x lightning fast memory, the fastest in the industry.
Launching the Vivo X200 and Oppo Find X8 series with the Dimensity 9400 earlier could give MediaTek a decisive first-mover advantage, especially if the processor lives up to its claimed efficiency and performance.
