Seven fire engines were called to a blaze at a recycling site last night. Crews attended Sittingbourne Household Waste Recycling Centre in Gas Road at around 11pm. Crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames and the fire had been put out by 1.30am. A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue said: “There were no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known. “The fire is believed to have been started in machinery.”
