France is to despatch a support unit to Réunion, its island department in the Indian Ocean, to help with the effects of Tropical Cyclone Belal, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced on Monday. The unit would be made up of 150 civil protection personnel, gendarmes and staff from the Enedis network operator, Darmanin said. France’s Météo weather service reported that Belal remained in the vicinity of the island, although the eye of the storm has moved away to the south.
