Samsung’s FE line has been successful with the Galaxy S smartphones, and rumors suggest that they may expand it to foldable phones. Perhaps FE technology will not be limited to phones. There are reports that Samsung is planning to add a smartwatch to the FE lineup – the Galaxy Watch FE.

Android Headlines has spotted the latest firmware build for the Galaxy Watch FE on Samsung‘s OTA servers. The watch has the model number SM-R861, which, according to the report, is the WiFi version.

The R861XXU0AXE5/R8610XM0AXE5 software version for the watch contains the letter “A”, which means the first One UI build for the device, and “XE”, which means the firmware release in May 2024.

In addition, the report states that the publication found five test builds on the server, which indicates that Samsung is actively working on the Watch FE. These test builds also show that Wi-Fi versions of the Watch FE will be available in Korea, Europe, and Turkey.

If you look closely at the model number, the Watch FE (SM-R861) looks very similar to the Galaxy Watch4 (SM-R860). It is rumored that the Watch FE will have similar features to the Galaxy Watch 4, and this leak further confirms these speculations.

Moreover, smartwatches with model numbers SM-R866F, SM-R866U, and SM-R866N were previously spotted in the IMEI database. This Android Headlines report suggests that these are LTE versions of the Watch FE.

Historically, FE devices have retained the core premium features while sacrificing non-essential aspects to keep the price down. The upcoming Galaxy Watch FE is likely to follow this trend.
