A Bishop’s Stortford roofer embarking on an epic challenge to single-handedly row the Atlantic Ocean has spoken of his frustration after being marooned by winds and tides. Pete Beatty set off from Portimão in Portugal on December 13 bidding to be the oldest person to complete the 3,800 marathon. But although he has ticked off around 700 miles he has had to engage his para anchor for seven days to stabilise his craft against southerly winds which are pushing him north.
