German chemistry professor Andreas Fath aims to swim more than 1,000 kilometres along the River Elbe to raise awareness for water protection, the Czech news agency CTK reported on Friday. The professor from Furtwangen University in the south-west of Germany began his environmental campaign with a jump into the upper course of the Elbe. He plans to swim the river from Smiřice in the Czech Republic to the north-western German town of Cuxhaven where the Elbe flows into the North Sea within 25 days.
