Firefighters are battling a blaze at a recycling centre which is visible from Essex. Crews are working to extinguish the blaze, which broke out at a commercial site in Garrison Road near Sheerness Docks, at around 11.10am. Four fire engines, a bulk water carrier and a technical rescue unit are in attendance. No injuries have been reported so far. The plumes of smoke can be seen from eight miles away, at Southend Pier, according to social media. People living in the area are advised to close windows and doors due to smoke.
