The Indian Navy says it has freed the crew of a cargo ship from the hands of Somali pirates almost three months after they were attacked. All 17 crew members on board the MV Ruen were released unharmed and 35 pirates surrendered, the Indian Navy said on Saturday evening on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter. The ship was intercepted in the Arabian Sea around 2,600 kilometres from the Indian coast and forced to stop. A search was also carried out for illegal weapons, ammunition and contraband.
