An Asda worker is retiring after years of distinguished service and handing over the trolley straps to his 17-year-old grandson. Peter Townsend, 68, has worked at the Newark Asda on Lombard Street for eight years and not only his grandson Matthew Haynes joined him over six weeks ago, but two other of his grandchildren work at the store — Tiffany on the counters and Rob on home shopping. Known as Peter the Porter, his last day at the store was Wednesday (June 12) and Matthew took over the role as porter.
