Numerous people were killed in Israeli attacks in the central part of the Gaza Strip on Saturday, according to Palestinian reports. Several houses were bombed by fighter jets, including in Deir al-Balah, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported. Eight people were killed and dozens more were injured or buried. Medics spoke of 40 people who had been killed. Many of the injured were taken to hospital, the reports said. An Israeli army spokesman said the reports were being investigated.
