Huawei ‘s breakthrough in foldable devices has made a lot of noise with its innovative approach of choosing three hinges. The Huawei Mate XT is the first triple-hinged device available on the market, and Xiaomi may release a similar form factor. 91mobiles has discovered a patent application that shows a possible design for Xiaomi’s triple smartphone.

Xiaomi’s new application to the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) has revealed the design of the upcoming triple smartphone. The document attached to the application is dated September 3.
The renders suggest that Xiaomi is going to take a similar approach to the Huawei Mate XT, where the foldable screen can be used with three different screen sizes.
Xiaomi’s triple phone may also have a horizontal camera panel at the top of the back with three sensors. Last month, there were rumors from a fairly reliable source on Weibo (a Chinese social network) that Xiaomi was developing such a device, so this idea is certainly not far-fetched.

However, at the moment, we cannot say whether this Xiaomi tri-fold design will be a consumer device or will remain a concept. Xiaomi is known to release some innovative variants under the “MIX” smartphone line in China. If this phablet enters the market, it could obviously be released under the MIX series as well.
It is worth waiting to see if this device will enter the global market with Android, as Huawei is losing market share due to sanctions against the brand.
