In his weekly Memory Lane Schooldays column, Chris Hornby looks back to April 2014… Pupils from Hillcrest Primary School in Downham celebrate as St George slays the dragon, in April 2014. Nearly 200 children and adults watched and cheered during the annual Downham St George’s Day festivities in the town square, with town mayor David Sharman describing it as a fantastic day. Town councillor Frank Daymond took on the role of the dragon and was chased by St George, played by Ron Botham. Keystone Estate Agents also supported the event by providing flags for the children.
