Two winter sports enthusiasts died in an avalanche accident in Switzerland on Sunday, authorities said. The regional police did not initially provide any further details. According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the mountaineers were swept away by the avalanche on the Pigne d’Arolla mountain, an almost 3,800 metre-high peak in the central Alps along the Italian-Swiss border. Two of them were killed and a third mountaineer survived, the report said. The victims are a 30-year-old and a 50-year-old from the Lombardy region in Italy, it added.
