Samsung is taking a more decisive step by equipping all future high-end Tab S10 tablets with MediaTek 9300+ chips.

This news comes from reliable leaker Ice Universe, which claims that all Galaxy Tab S10 variants will be ditching Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors. Initially, it was rumored that one model in the Tab S10 lineup might use the MediaTek Dimensity chip, but this is a complete change in Samsung’s strategy. The launch of these tablets is reportedly scheduled for October 2024.

The decision, if made, is likely to be driven by a variety of factors. One of the main reasons could be the rising cost of high-end Qualcomm processors in recent years. The switch to MediaTek could be a strategic cost-saving measure for Samsung, which will allow it to set more competitive prices for the Tab S10 series.

The US variant of the Galaxy Tab S10+ was also spotted in the Geekbench database with the aforementioned Dimensity 9300+ processor. This is MediaTek’s current flagship offering, built on a 4nm process, and boasts eight high-performance processor cores along with a powerful GPU.

Here are the specifications of the Dimensity 9300+:

  • Processor: 1 Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.4 GHz, 3 Cortex-X4 cores clocked at 2.85 GHz, 4 Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2 GHz
  • Graphics processor: ARM Immortalis-G720 MC12
  • Display support: 4K @ 120 Hz with support for HDR in games
  • Memory support: LPDDR5X/LPDDR5T DRAM and UFS 4.0 storage
  • Connectivity: mmWave and up to 6 GHz 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, USB Type-C
  • Positioning: tri-band GPS, quad-band BDS, tri-band Galileo, dual-band QZSS, GLONASS, Navic
  • Camera provider: Support for sensors up to 320 megapixels, 8K 30fps or 4K 60fps video recording

Whether this complete switch to MediaTek will be beneficial for Samsung and its consumers remains to be seen. With the official launch still a few months away, it will be interesting to see how the Tab S10 series performs and positions itself in the competitive tablet market.
