The Israeli military authorities plan to send conscription orders to about 1,000 ultra-Orthodox men between the ages of 18 and 26, public broadcaster Kan reported on Thursday, citing Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. The draft notices are to be sent out as of Sunday, it said. For decades, ultra-Orthodox Jews have been exempt from military service, but the government was unable to pass a law extending the exemption after it expired earlier this year.
