As recently as a decade or so ago, it was the norm for people to kennel their pets or, ideally, find a pet sitter when they went away on vacation. Nowadays, I see Instagram reels of adventuresome cats hiking the back country with their owners unabashedly. Meanwhile, hotels are increasingly adopting a “pets welcome” policy, so no one looks at me funny when I say I want to bring my dogs along on a trip.
