The German Federal Police which is responsible for border protection, including railway stations and airports on Monday reported a record number of attacks on its officers in 2023. A total of 2,979 officers were attacked last year, according to the authoritys new annual report presented in the north-eastern city of Rostock, marking an all-time high. This included 145 officers injured during the operation in Lützerath, where people protested against lignite mining. About a quarter of those attacked, or 793 officers, were injured, marking another record since data collection began in 2001.
