New homes will be coming to Newbury town centre after councillors approved a scheme to replace a builders’ merchant. The 79 homes in Pound Street will be close to a heritage area, so there have been conditions imposed to help the scheme blend in better with the existing buildings. An initial scheme for 100 homes across four residential blocks had previously been rejected, and this new proposal will see 27 one-bed, 42 two-bed, 10 three-bed homes built on the site, with the 24 homes designated as affordable.
