Apple is planning to release a new version of its popular AirTag item tracker sometime in 2025. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this 2021 update to the device, codenamed B589, is currently being tested with manufacturing partners in Asia.

The new AirTag is expected to have a more powerful chip for better location tracking

There are no specific details about the new AirTag, but Gurman expects it to have a more powerful chip for better location tracking. This coincides with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s October 2023 forecast, which also suggested a 2025 release and potential compatibility with Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro technology.

While the official specifications remain secret, Gurman expressed his wishes for a louder speaker, longer battery life, and a more wallet-friendly version of AirTag. It is worth noting that third-party companies already offer wallet-compatible trackers that work with Apple’s Find My network.

Apple has been at the forefront of implementing anti-stalking features in product trackers, and they have continuously improved these security features over time. This attention to user safety has prompted other manufacturers to take similar measures to prevent the misuse of tracking devices.
