The chairman of the German Bishops’ Conference, Georg Bätzing, has called for a clear signal from the Catholic Church against far-right extremism. “We must defend our democracy, our freedom, our openness to Europe and foreigners and raise our voices in favour of this,” he said at the start of the German Bishops’ Conference spring meeting in Augsburg on Monday.
