While Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor is making headlines, it looks like a mid-range processor from the Snapdragon 7 series is also on the way.
Today, insider Evan Blass shared a promotional piece on X (formerly Twitter) that reveals some key details about the upcoming Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor.
The promotional material does not go into details such as the manufacturing process, core configuration, or GPU. Instead, it explicitly mentions the performance margin it will have over the previous generation, i.e. a modest 20% increase in CPU performance and a more notable 40% improvement in GPU performance.
The performance of artificial intelligence, which is receiving more and more attention in mobile processors, is expected to increase by 30%. Energy efficiency is also expected to improve by 12%.
In terms of connectivity, the leak suggests that the processor will be equipped with a 5G modem with support for Qualcomm’s FastConnect Mobile Connectivity system, which provides high data transfer speeds. There will also be support for Bluetooth 5.4, which should provide better range and connection stability for wearables and other peripherals.
In terms of multimedia, the leak hints at a triple ISP (Image Signal Processor) for improved image processing. Artificial intelligence features, such as AI Remosaic and video retouching, can further improve the quality of photos and videos.
For gaming, the chip includes Adaptive Perf Engine 3.0 to optimize performance, VRS Pro for variable rate shading to improve graphics without draining battery, and AFME for better sound quality.
Audiophiles may appreciate features such as Spatial Audio to create an immersive experience, Aqstic Speaker Max to improve speaker performance, and Qualcomm aptX Lossless Audio to stream high-quality audio over Bluetooth. The leak also mentions support for generative artificial intelligence and multilingual translation and transcription.
The launch date of the processor is not specified. It may be announced along with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 at the October Snapdragon Summit, or Qualcomm may present it separately.
